For Immediate Release
October 24, 2002

Contacts: Susan Moloney, Campaign for Old Growth
Lisa Beyer Sacramento, CA, October 24, 2002 - Susan Moloney, Executive Director of the Campaign for Old Growth will be joined by Green Party Gubernatorial Candidate Peter Camejo for a press conference on October 29 at 12:00 noon at the North Steps of the State Capitol in Sacramento. Moloney began a hunger strike on October 7th to remind Governor Davis, and the voters of California, that Davis' four-year old promise to protect the State's old-growth trees remains unfulfilled.

In a March 1998 address to the Planning and Conservation League, gubernatorial candidate Gray Davis pledged to ensure that, "all old-growth trees are spared from the lumberjack's axe." Despite Davis's promise, the cutting of old-growth trees throughout California continues unabated.

Moloney and Camejo will address the media and field questions relating to Moloney's hunger strike and Davis' timber cutting record. For more information, please go to www.fastforoldgrowth.org.
